The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation NDRO has described as unpatriotic, mischievous and uncalled for the attacks against the person of Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Olejeme and the board of the NSITF. The group in a press statement made available to newsmen and signed by its National Coordinator Comrade Nwokoma Messiah said instead of vilifying Mrs. Ngozi Olejeme, Nigerians should be applauding her for the success she recorded as the Chairman of the board of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund NSITF.
The group described Mrs. Olejeme as a hardworking technocrat who brought her experience to bear in repositioning the Fund since she assumed office in 2009 under the late Umar Yaradua administration. The group said it was because of her hard work and cooperation with the management of the board that saw to the turnaround the fund experienced over the years.
The Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation said Nigerians must learn to rise above parochial sentiments and unnecessary witch-hunt of achievers in office describing Mrs. Olejeme as an achiever who must be congratulated for doing a very good job. It said the fact that President Goodluck Jonathan whom she supported lost in the Presidential polls of March 28th does not call for the kind of blackmails which many of his supporters have suffered in the past one month.
The group in the statement urged Mrs. Olejeme to remain steadfast stressing that no amount of witch-hunting or blackmail can obliterate what she has done in the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund citing the case of the passage of the Employees Compensation Act ECA an initiative that was passed into law and accented to by Mr. President which has now guaranteed that workers in the country will receive compensation for injuries sustained at the workplace or in the course of their work. “if the ECA and other initiatives of the NSITF under Mrs. Olejeme like the social security packages are not achievements that are worthy of being applauded by Nigerians, one is left to wonder what will appease these sworn critics whose sole objective is to bring down a very active board through cheap blackmail the group posited.
